Edmund Polubinski III


Mr. Polubinski is a member of Davis Polk & Wardwell’s Litigation Department. He has represented corporations and individuals in a wide range of securities, professional liability, products liability, general commercial and acquisition-related litigation in federal and state courts. He also represents clients in internal investigations and in investigations and other proceedings before various regulatory agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, and the New York Stock Exchange. Recent matters include the defense of an investment banking client in putative class action antitrust litigations; the representation of a corporate issuer and individual clients in class action securities litigation and a related SEC investigation; the defense of a major pharmaceutical company in nationwide consumer protection and product liability litigation; and the representation through trial of a big four accounting firm in litigation arising out of the failure of a large national bank.

In his pro bono practice, he successfully secured the release of a wrongfully convicted criminal defendant after a two-week evidentiary hearing in New York Supreme Court. He also won political asylum for a woman from the Ivory Coast.

He joined Davis Polk in 2000 and became a partner in 2007.

Mr. Polubinski graduated from Princeton University in 1992 and in 1998 received his J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was an articles editor for the Law Review, and won both the Alumni Association Best Note Award and the Roger and Madeleine Traynor Award. He clerked for the Honorable Chester J. Straub, U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, from 1998 to 1999 and for the Honorable Carol Bagley Amon, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, from 1999 to 2000. He is admitted to the bars of New York and Massachusetts. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the District of Massachusetts, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Mr. Polubinski is a member of the New York City Bar Association and the Federal Bar Council.
