Gavin R. Skene


Mr. Skene is an associate in Davis Polk & Wardwell’s Corporate Department and is assigned to the Credit Group, where he focuses his practice in project finance. He joined Davis Polk in 2007.

Mr. Skene has counseled banks, financial institutions, international agencies, political risk insurers and sponsors in all phases of the development and financing of U.S. and international projects in the power, mining and metals, oil and gas, petrochemical, water and other industrial sectors. He has also represented banks, financial institutions, issuers and sponsors in complex acquisition, mezzanine and corporate financings in a variety of industries in the United States and abroad.

Mr. Skene received his LL.B., with honors, and B.Comm., in corporate finance, from Deakin University, Australia, in 2001. He received his LL.M. from The University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2004. Mr. Skene is admitted to the bar of New York. He is also admitted as a barrister and solicitor to practice before The High Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia, and the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. Skene has published widely in the areas of project finance, syndicated debt finance, electronic payment systems and international law. His publications include peer-reviewed articles in the International Financial Law Review, the Penn State International Law Review, the Tulane Journal of International and Comparative Law, the Journal of International Banking Law and Regulation, and the Journal of Banking and Finance Law and Practice, as well as the lead article in the first edition of the book Project Finance 2008.

Before joining Davis Polk, Mr. Skene was an associate at Baker & McKenzie, having practiced in several of its Asia and Pacific offices, from 2001 to 2005; a senior associate at Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Sydney, Australia, from 2005 to 2006; and an associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, New York, from 2006 to 2007. He was also a sessional lecturer and tutor in law at Deakin University, Australia, from 1999 to 2000 and The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, from 2003 to 2005.
