James P. Rouhandeh


Mr. Rouhandeh is a member of Davis Polk & Wardwell’s Litigation Department and represents clients in a variety of criminal, civil and regulatory matters. His practice includes representation of clients in grand jury and SEC investigations, as well as complex civil litigation, including class action securities litigation, cases brought under RICO, and other cases involving allegations of fraud.

Mr. Rouhandeh has handled a wide variety of matters, typically involving parallel criminal, civil and regulatory proceedings. His recent matters include representing a major pharmaceutical company in a federal grand jury investigation and related matters that resulted in a resolution with the federal government and all 50 states; a national law firm in connection with a federal investigation relating to tax opinions; the foreign parent of a pharmaceutical company in a federal grand jury investigation; a former Worldcom executive in connection with a federal investigation of alleged accounting fraud; and an investment bank in a class action securities litigation involving an alleged accounting fraud at the highest levels of the issuer. 

Mr. Rouhandeh is also national counsel to a pharmaceutical company in connection with RICO, consumer fraud and product liability litigation involving a prescription medicine, and national counsel to a number of investment banks in the AOL Time Warner securities litigation. 

Other recent noteworthy representations include an individual in a criminal antitrust trial; partners of a major professional service firm in an SEC investigation; a tobacco company in the DOJ’s investigation of the industry; an investment bank in an SEC investigation relating to the municipal bond business; a former executive of a major pharmaceutical company in a criminal investigation in Japan; and a pharmaceutical company in a suit against a competitor for misappropriation of trade secrets.

Mr. Rouhandeh joined Davis Polk & Wardwell in 1988 and became a partner in 1996.

Mr. Rouhandeh graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1984 and in 1987 received his J.D. from the Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
