Mr. Wieman is a member of Davis Polk & Wardwell’s Credit Group. He represents borrowers and lenders in connection with secured and unsecured financings for U.S. and non-U.S. transactions. He also advises lenders and financially distressed borrowers on workouts and debt restructurings, various clients on senior and subordinated financing for contested and friendly acquisitions, and financial institutions, investment funds and other clients with respect to structured products and the credit and insolvency risks involved in cross-border securities and derivatives transactions and related collateral arrangements.
Mr. Wieman’s clients have included lenders such as Bank of America, Credit Suisse, JPMorgan Chase and the Morgan Stanley senior debt and bridge groups. Among the borrowers he has advised are Aetna, Amerisource Bergen, Banco Santander, Bearing Point, Comcast, CSG Systems, Emerson Electric, E*TRADE, Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold, Honeywell, Fender Musical Instruments, Jacuzzi Brands, Limited Brands, The New York Mets, Shire Pharmaceuticals, Tekni-Plex and Verizon, as well as portfolio companies of investment funds arranged or managed by Avista Capital, Credit Suisse, Crestview Partners, Francisco Partners, Frontpoint Partners, Greenhill Capital Partners, Metalmark Capital, Morgan Stanley, Quadrangle Group, Tailwind Capital and Welsh Carson.
He also has worked on securities and derivative product custody, trading and execution operations for AIG, Bank of America, Citadel, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, the Ellington Group, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Magnetar Capital, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, UBS and other financial institutions.
He joined Davis Polk in 1985 and became a partner in 1992. He practiced in the Washington office from 1985 to 1987 and the London office from 1987 to 1989.
Mr. Wieman graduated from Princeton University in 1975 and in 1984 received his J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was on The University of Chicago Law Review from 1982 to 1984, serving as executive editor from 1983 to 1984. He clerked for the Honorable Amalya L. Kearse, U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, from 1984 to 1985. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York County Lawyers Association.
